Queens & Kings YOU GOT ME
YOU GOT ME – QUEENS & KINGS
Queens and Kings are a Toronto band that is well known in the scene. They have played in most of Toronto’s Great venues. They sat down with us at Lola in Kensington Market to chat about there new single YOU GOT ME. Shockingly, this is their first original music release. YOU GOT ME
Who are Queens and Kings, they are seething with rage and defiance? They are an electrifying post-punk garage rock duo.
For 8 years, band members Alissa Klug (drums, vox) and Brendan Albert (electric guitar, vox) struggled with each of their own music musical endeavors, with their health and with their intensely volatile relationship with each other. Queens & Kings was born of these struggles and became the musical vessel and the ultimate release for everything the pair had gone through, channeled in a compelling and viscerally physical way. The response has been unparalleled, inducing a frenzied reaction by audience members who both fuel and are fuelled by the energy of their live shows.
This is a rock duo unlike any other, built upon the intensely personal relationship between the pair. With its honest expression of all that relationship encapsulates–love, hate, frustration, rage, forgiveness, compassion, and strength–the result is explosive detonating sound levels reaching that of any full band. The two stray from their main roles in the band with fluid ease, switching instruments and at times, Brendan playing both drums and guitar at once, a feat which always garners an explosive reaction.
Queens & Kings have entered the musical landscape with a roar, headlining local festivals such as SOTC and opening for established bands such as Die Mannequin. Their upcoming debut EP is being forged with heavy hitters such as Juno award winner Vic Florencia and four-time Grammy nominee, mastering legend Howie Weinberg, who holds 200 gold records under his belt. They are planning the imminent release of their debut single “You Got Me” with a video shot in Aruba and Toronto.
