Musicians band together for wildfire recovery benefit concert in Nova Scotia

Matt Mays, Neon Dreams and Jenn Grant among performers

Nova Scotia musicians are coming together to help raise funds for those affected by the recent wildfires in the province. The Wildfire Benefit Concert will take place on Friday night at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, with all proceeds going to the United Way, a local organization supporting Nova Scotians impacted by the fires.

The concert features headliners Matt Mays, Neon Dreams, Jenn Grant, Classified, and Joel Plaskett Emergency, along with many other local musicians. Co-producer Brookes Diamond said the event came together quickly and that everyone involved is there for the cause.

Thousands of people have been displaced since the wildfires roared through parts of the province in late May, with 150 homes destroyed in the Upper Tantallon and Hammonds Plains area and about 60 homes claimed in the Shelburne County area. The Wildfire Benefit Concert is a wonderful opportunity to support those in need and enjoy some great music at the same time.

Music Is Facing a Mental Health Crisis

Money is tight while they work long and weird hours, travel incessantly, are isolated from their friends and family at home, and have ample access to drinks and drugs. They write, record, release, and promote, and then repeat the cycle over and over again. And now, more than ever, the industry demands constant content, lest they are forgotten in the ocean of songs hitting Spotify every Friday. But then they get in the van and, especially in Canada, drive absurd distances between low-paying gigs for a tour they likely had to book themselves.
