1. Suicidal Tendencies – Nós Somos Família

Suicidal Tendencies, legendary in the crossover thrash genre, are now something of a supergroup. Featuring former Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, ex-Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg, and wunderkind bassist Tye Trujillo, their new single “Nós Somos Família” showcases their combined talents. The track combines thrashy breakouts with punk zeal, capturing the intense energy they bring to live performances. A new album might be on the horizon!

2. High Parasite – Grave Intentions

With doom metal legends My Dying Bride on hiatus, frontman Aaron Stainthorpe channels his gothic energy into High Parasite. Their debut album “Forever We Burn” is set for release on September 27. The latest single, “Grave Intentions,” exhibits a fiery, venomous sound that diverges from the funereal grandeur of My Dying Bride, offering a fresh spin while maintaining the essence of his past work.

3. Overthrust – Fallen Witches

Botswanan death metal band Overthrust released their new album “Infected By Myth” last week, featuring the standout single “Fallen Witches.” This track keeps old-school death metal at its core but introduces a jazzy thrash breakout that sets it apart. Sublime guitar work adds an otherworldly presence to their sound, distinguishing them from typical death metal comparisons like Deicide and Cannibal Corpse.

4. Mushroomhead – Prepackaged

Nu metal veterans Mushroomhead are set to release their ninth album “Call The Devil” on August 9th. The new single “Prepackaged” stays true to their core sound with downtuned, clattering riffs and apocalyptic vibes. This track serves as a reminder of nu metal’s role in bringing hip hop influences to metal while opening pathways to the mainstream for death metal elements.

5. Ice Nine Kills x Reel Big Fish – Walking On Sunshine

Ice Nine Kills have proven their versatility with their Silver Scream releases. However, their roots in pop punk and ska are revisited in their cover of the 80s pop hit “Walking On Sunshine,” featuring sunny ska punks Reel Big Fish. This track highlights the band’s diverse musical background, showing there’s more to them than brutish breakdowns and horror movie references.

Music Is Facing a Mental Health Crisis

Money is tight while they work long and weird hours, travel incessantly, are isolated from their friends and family at home, and have ample access to drinks and drugs. They write, record, release, and promote, and then repeat the cycle over and over again. And now, more than ever, the industry demands constant content, lest they are forgotten in the ocean of songs hitting Spotify every Friday. But then they get in the van and, especially in Canada, drive absurd distances between low-paying gigs for a tour they likely had to book themselves.
