Paramore Releases Energetic Cover of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” for Tribute Album

Following a teaser just three weeks ago, Paramore has officially unveiled their spirited cover of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House.” The release is part of A24 Music’s latest project, “Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Stop Making Sense,” dedicated to commemorating the 40-year anniversary of Talking Heads’ iconic concert film and soundtrack.

A24 Music recently announced the tribute album, featuring a diverse lineup of artists that mirrors the original LP’s tracklist. Joining Paramore on the compilation are musicians like Miley Cyrus, Lorde, The National, Teezo Touchdown, Kevin Abstract, Jean Dawson, girl in red, BADBADNOTGOOD, Blondshell, The Cavemen, Chicano Batman, Money Mark, DJ Tunez, El Mató a un Policía Motorizado, The Linda Lindas, and Toro y Moi.

The tribute album coincides with the re-release of “Stop Making Sense” in theaters nationwide. Originally filmed in 1984, the concert film directed by Jonathan Demme captures Talking Heads’ performances during their 1983 tour in support of the “Speaking in Tongues” album. This iconic soundtrack, which initially reached No. 41 on the Billboard 200 in 1984, has spent an impressive 119 weeks on the ranking, surpassing all other Talking Heads titles.

A24’s re-release of “Stop Making Sense” in a restored 4K print has been met with remarkable success. The film set an IMAX record for the highest-grossing live event and exceeded the gross of its original 10-month U.S. theatrical run within weeks. To celebrate the approaching 40-year anniversary of the film’s premiere on April 24, A24 initiated a theatrical residency, hosting monthly screenings in major cities such as Chicago, London, and New York.

Talking Heads, known for hits like “Burning Down the House,” have left a lasting impact on music, earning eight entries on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving milestones on the Billboard 200 with albums like “Speaking in Tongues,” “Little Creatures,” and “Naked.” The band’s influence continues to resonate, evident in the enthusiasm surrounding this tribute album and the ongoing success of “Stop Making Sense.”

Music Is Facing a Mental Health Crisis

Money is tight while they work long and weird hours, travel incessantly, are isolated from their friends and family at home, and have ample access to drinks and drugs. They write, record, release, and promote, and then repeat the cycle over and over again. And now, more than ever, the industry demands constant content, lest they are forgotten in the ocean of songs hitting Spotify every Friday. But then they get in the van and, especially in Canada, drive absurd distances between low-paying gigs for a tour they likely had to book themselves.
