Atlantic Music Group Adapts to Shifting Industry Dynamics with Workforce Changes

In a strategic move aimed at maximizing impact for its artists, Atlantic Music Group has announced a workforce restructuring that includes approximately two dozen layoffs, primarily affecting the radio and video departments. The decision aligns with industry-wide adjustments to address the stabilization of streaming growth.

Chairman-CEO Julie Greenwald emphasized the company’s commitment to evolving in response to the changing music landscape. The internal memo obtained by Variety revealed Atlantic’s intention to bring in new expertise in social media, content creation, community building, and audience insights. This shift aims to enhance fan engagement and enable artists to share their stories in resonant ways.

Contrary to recent industry trends involving label consolidation, Greenwald clarified that Atlantic’s move does not entail reducing or merging labels. She stressed the importance of maintaining the unique cultures of Atlantic, Elektra, and 300, emphasizing their significance in attracting and nurturing talent.

The decision to part ways with two dozen employees was not unexpected, following the industry trend highlighted by Warner Music Group’s recent announcement of a 10% staff reduction. Greenwald expressed regret about the layoffs, citing the necessity to continually retool the company, add new resources, and acquire diverse skill sets.

In her full note to the staff, Greenwald acknowledged the challenges of saying goodbye to valued colleagues while emphasizing the company’s commitment to growth and adaptation. She highlighted Atlantic’s consistent dedication to signing the best musicians and fostering real careers through genuine artist development.

Despite the layoffs, Greenwald conveyed optimism about the future, pointing to the incredible music being produced across the entire group. The company’s focus remains on supporting artists, preserving individual label identities, and taking measured steps to navigate the evolving music landscape. Greenwald encouraged ongoing collaboration and feedback from the team to drive continuous improvement.
