AC/DC Unveils New Bass Player Chris Chaney for Power Up Tour

AC/DC is set to embark on a 21-date European tour this summer, announcing Chris Chaney, renowned bassist from Jane’s Addiction, as the replacement for longtime bassist Cliff Williams. Williams, who initially retired in 2016 but returned for the 2020 album Power Up, will be succeeded by Chaney on the upcoming tour.

Chris Chaney, a seasoned session musician with a rich history of collaborations with artists like Joe Satriani, Slash, Eddie Vedder, and Meat Loaf, brings his talent to AC/DC. Apart from his work with Jane’s Addiction, Chaney was a member of Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, performing at Wembley Stadium for the Foo Fighters drummer’s tribute concert.

The band expressed their excitement in a statement, stating, “We are thrilled to finally announce the ‘POWER UP’ European Tour. Angus, Brian, Stevie, and Matt will be joined by Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff.”

The lineup for the tour includes Brian Johnson, Angus Young, Stevie Young, and drummer Matt Laug, who filled in for Phil Rudd at Power Trip.

Tickets for the tour go on sale at 10 am local time on February 16. The European trek begins at Gelsenkirchen Veltins Arena soccer stadium in Germany on May 7 and concludes at Ireland’s Croke Park on August 17, covering 11 different countries, including two dates at Wembley Stadium.

The band’s social media teased the announcement with the signature thunderbolt and the words “ARE YOU READY,” leading to the revelation of their first tour since the release of Power Up four years ago. AC/DC’s last live performance was in 2016 during the Rock or Bust tour, where Axl Rose replaced Brian Johnson due to hearing issues.

While the current tour focuses on European locations, there is speculation about AC/DC headlining Brazil’s Rock in Rio event in September, according to Brazilian sources via Louder.
