Blink-182 and Rolling Stones Revive Rock in Top 10

Recent releases by Blink-182 and the Rolling Stones have made a resounding impact on the Billboard album chart, signaling a promising resurgence of rock music. Amidst this, the music industry is on edge, eagerly awaiting the colossal success of Taylor Swift’s latest rerecorded album 1989 Taylor Swifts Verson.

Blink-182, the pop-punk pioneers who burst onto the scene in 1999 with hits like “All the Small Things” and “What’s My Age Again?,” have soared to the top with  their latest album, “One More Time”.

This marks their first release in over a decade featuring their classic lineup of Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker. The band last claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart in 2016 with “California,” during which Matt Skiba replaced DeLonge. DeLonge had been involved in other musical projects, including his work with Angels & Airwaves and his UFO research.

“One More Time…” achieved the equivalent of 125,000 sales in the United States, including 30 million streams and 101,000 copies sold as a traditional album. Fans had various purchase options, such as nearly a dozen vinyl variants and a deluxe version bundled with a CD, band shirt, and a custom full-color box.

Drake’s “For All the Dogs” maintains its position at No. 2, while the Rolling Stones’ “Hackney Diamonds,” their first album of original material in 18 years and their initial studio LP following the loss of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021, debuts at No. 3. The album garnered 8.4 million streams and 94,000 complete album sales. This achievement marks the Stones’ 38th LP to secure a spot in the Top 10. In the UK, “Hackney Diamonds” claimed the No. 1 spot.

Last week’s chart-topper, Bad Bunny’s “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana” (“Nobody Knows What Will Happen Tomorrow”), drops to fourth place, and Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” takes the No. 5 spot.

The anticipation for Taylor Swift’s impact is building. “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” part of her ongoing rerecording project, was released recently and is poised for a blockbuster debut. However, the extent of its success is yet to be determined. In its first day, the new “1989” garnered 110 million streams and sold over 250,000 copies in the United States, according to early data from Luminate, as reported by Billboard.

Furthermore, Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” secures the No. 1 single spot for the second consecutive week, with 21 million streams, 7,000 downloads, and a substantial radio audience of 80 million.

The music world is bracing for the Swift storm that is about to hit next week.
