Town of Ajax Honors Sum 41 with Temporary Street Renaming

Residents and visitors in Ajax may notice a striking change to the street signs along Falby Court. In a heartfelt tribute to one of Canada’s most iconic rock bands, the Town of Ajax has temporarily renamed the street to Sum 41 Way, commemorating the band’s final tour and their lasting impact on music history.

Local councillors and family members of Sum 41 recently gathered to celebrate this special occasion, unveiling the new street sign. Although the band was unable to attend due to their ongoing Tour of the Setting Sum, their legacy was honored by the community that helped shape their early years.

Sum 41’s journey began in Ajax when its members met as teenagers at Exeter High School, formerly located on Falby Court. Today, the site is home to Bolton C. Falby Public School, but the band’s roots remain deeply tied to the area. Over the years, Sum 41 has achieved global fame, releasing eight studio albums, selling 15 million records, and earning widespread recognition with hits like Fat Lip, In Too Deep, and Dopamine. Their contributions to music have also earned them two Juno Awards, and later this year, they will receive one of the highest honors in Canadian music—induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

As their farewell tour comes to an end, Sum 41 has just a few performances left, including two major shows in Toronto—one on January 28 and their final concert on January 30. To further celebrate their achievements, the Town of Ajax will host a special event on January 31 at the Ajax Community Centre. This exclusive gathering will feature a Q&A session and a photo opportunity with the band, allowing local fans to engage with the musicians who put their hometown on the global music map.

Sum 41’s legacy extends far beyond their music. Their journey from high school friends in Ajax to internationally recognized rock stars is a testament to their talent, dedication, and influence. The renaming of Falby Court to Sum 41 Way serves as a meaningful tribute to a band that has left an indelible mark on the world of music and the town they once called home.
