Tool Concludes Latin American Tour at Lollapalooza Brasil with Special Guest and Livestream Restrictions

Tool Wraps Up First Latin American Tour with Livestream Performance at Lollapalooza Brasil
On March 30th, multi-platinum alternative metal band Tool concluded their first-ever headlining tour in Latin America with an explosive set at Lollapalooza Brasil. The event took place at the iconic Autódromo de Interlagos in São Paulo, Brazil, where the band showcased their distinctive musical style to thousands of fans.
The band’s performance was professionally livestreamed for global audiences, but once again, the broadcast adhered strictly to Tool’s longstanding policy regarding filming. The livestream was limited to wide shots filmed from afar, a decision clearly outlined by a caption during the broadcast: “At the request of the band Tool, the broadcast of this show is being done only with wide images.”
This filming restriction reflects Tool’s strict stance on audience recording at their concerts. The band has long stated that the presence of smartphones and camera lights can be distracting and even blinding for them while performing on stage. They’ve also expressed concerns that the flashing lights and screens in the crowd can create a disruptive atmosphere for other concertgoers.
To add an extra surprise for this performance, Tool was joined by ex-Crypta guitarist Jéssica di Falchi, who played alongside the band during their rendition of “Jambi.” This track, which is the third single from their 2006 album 10,000 Days, provided a thrilling moment for fans as they witnessed di Falchi’s skillful guitar work in this special guest appearance.
The setlist for Tool’s final performance on this Latin American leg of their tour included some of their most iconic tracks:
-
Fear Inoculum
-
Jambi (feat. Jéssica di Falchi)
-
Stinkfist
-
Rosetta Stoned
-
Pneuma
-
The Grudge
-
Parabol
-
Parabola
-
Schism
-
Ænema
-
Flood
With the completion of this tour, Tool now plans to dedicate several months to writing and recording their follow-up album to Fear Inoculum (2019). Bassist Justin Chancellor shared in a recent interview that the band will begin focusing on new music once they return from their brief South American leg.
“We’ve already shared a lot of new ideas, and when we get back, we plan to spend the next three months in the studio to organize them,” Chancellor revealed.
However, these upcoming writing sessions will proceed without vocalist Maynard James Keenan, who is scheduled to embark on a tour with his other bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, for their “Sessanto v2.0” tour. Despite Keenan’s absence during the initial stages of writing, Chancellor believes the process will continue smoothly. Tool’s approach to songwriting is known for its meticulous nature, with instrumental groundwork laid by drummer Danny Carey, Chancellor, and guitarist Adam Jones before Keenan adds his distinctive vocals.
As the band prepares for the next phase of their creative journey, a potential legal issue is looming. Fans who attended the “Tool Live In The Sand” festival earlier this month have expressed dissatisfaction, and a class-action lawsuit could be on the horizon. Despite the challenges, Tool’s loyal fanbase remains eager for any developments regarding new material.
With their Latin American tour behind them and fresh music on the horizon, Tool’s journey continues to evolve as they push forward with their distinctive and demanding creative process. Fans can look forward to the next chapter, whether it’s new music or upcoming performances.
