Radiohead Celebrates 30th Anniversary of ‘The Bends’ with Exclusive B-Sides and Remixes Playlist

Radiohead has unveiled a new playlist featuring B-sides and remixes from their iconic album The Bends to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Originally released in 1995, The Bends was a turning point for the band, helping to solidify their place in the alternative rock scene. Produced by John Leckie, the album also marked the band’s first collaboration with Nigel Godrich, who would go on to produce all of their subsequent records.

The newly released playlist includes lesser-known gems such as ‘India Rubber,’ ‘How Can You Be Sure?,’ ‘Bishop’s Robes,’ and ‘Talk Show Host.’ The latter gained significant recognition after being featured in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, where a remixed version of the song accompanied the introduction of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Romeo Montague.

Rare Live Performance from 1995

In addition to the playlist, Radiohead has shared an unseen live video capturing Thom Yorke’s solo performance at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern on March 28, 1995. The intimate acoustic set includes performances of The Bends era tracks such as ‘(Nice Dream),’ ‘High and Dry,’ ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out),’ ‘Fake Plastic Trees,’ and ‘Thinking About You.’ This rare footage offers fans a glimpse into the band’s early days as they transitioned into one of the most influential acts in modern rock.

Future Plans: A Possible Return in 2025?

Speculation about Radiohead’s future has been reignited following the formation of a new legal entity by the band. On March 10, the group registered a limited liability partnership (LLP) under the name RHEUK25, a move that has previously signaled the release of new albums, reissues, or tours. Past LLP registrations have preceded significant projects, including A Moon Shaped Pool (2016) and the Kid A Mnesia reissue (2021).

All five members—Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Philip Selway—are listed as officers in the new LLP. While this has fueled anticipation, the band remains characteristically tight-lipped about their next steps.

Last year, Thom Yorke dismissed speculation regarding a potential Radiohead return, stating, “I really don’t give a flying f***,” when asked about fan expectations. Meanwhile, bassist Colin Greenwood revealed that the band had reunited for brief rehearsals in the summer, playing through their catalog for a couple of days. He noted that the sessions were enjoyable and reaffirmed the band’s ability to perform together seamlessly. However, no concrete plans for an album or tour were discussed.

Jonny Greenwood echoed a similar sentiment, describing the rehearsals as “fun and natural” but emphasizing that there are “no plans” for a Radiohead project in 2025 as each member remains focused on individual creative endeavors.

While it remains unclear what the future holds for Radiohead, their latest playlist and archival live footage serve as a reminder of the band’s enduring legacy and the timeless impact of The Bends.
