Lexi Jones, Daughter of David Bowie, Introduces New Romance with British Musician Sonny James

Lexi Jones Debuts New Romance with Musician Sonny James
Lexi Jones, daughter of the late music legend David Bowie and supermodel Iman, has officially introduced her new boyfriend, British musician Sonny James, in a touching Instagram post. The 24-year-old artist shared a series of sweet photos from a picnic date, along with a heartfelt clip of the couple singing together, simply captioned “Besotted.”
In the photos, Lexi sits on a picnic blanket, gazing into Sonny’s eyes as they enjoy a sunny afternoon together. She wore a distressed denim maxi skirt and a purple bikini top, paired with black boots and sunglasses. Her brunette hair was styled in relaxed, beachy waves, completing the effortlessly romantic vibe.
She also posted a video of the two performing together in a cozy bar, with Sonny playing guitar as they sang, offering fans a glimpse into their shared musical bond.
Coping with Loss and Finding Her Own Voice
Lexi has been open about the profound impact of her father’s death on her personal journey. David Bowie passed away from liver cancer in 2016 when Lexi was just 15 years old. In a deeply emotional blog post shared in 2024, she described the aftermath of his passing and her struggle to process the grief.
“I confused living life with surviving life’s days by filling my body’s bottomless void, drowning myself in toxins and poison,” she wrote, detailing the pain and poor decisions that followed her father’s death. “I involved myself in things I never expected to be part of… Situating myself in situations that contributed to the already crumbling foundation of my family eventually led to lonely isolation.”
Lexi also admitted to lashing out at loved ones, stating, “It felt easier to label myself as a psychopath, rather than to have admitted to the lack of introspection in an effort to justify my harmful actions.”
Despite the hardships, Lexi has shown a powerful will to heal and rediscover herself. “Growing to be such a violent and angry individual was unbelievably contradictory to the sweet and gentle little girl I used to be,” she reflected.
Rejecting the Runway, Embracing the Stage
Though born to a mother who redefined fashion and a father who revolutionized music, Lexi chose to forge her own path outside of their industries’ expectations. While many modeling agencies were eager to sign her, Iman firmly supported her daughter’s decision to say no.
“Every agency, every designer wanted to work with her,” Iman revealed in an interview. “But Lexi refused. I said, ‘No, she doesn’t.’ I know why they wanted her to model – it’s because she’s David Bowie’s daughter.”
Instead, Lexi followed her passion for music. In April, she released her debut album titled Xandri, offering an intimate look into her artistry and emotional world.
Carving Her Own Identity
Lexi has also shared a powerful poem on Instagram reflecting her experience growing up in the shadow of an icon. In it, she addressed the pressures of living up to her father’s legacy:
“They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light, but I’m not here to chase what’s already been done,” she wrote. “By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.”
“I’m not a copy, not a shadow. I’m just a girl that’s as confused as you,” she continued. “I’m not trying to be that someone, that all love and admire so. I’m creating my own rhythm, letting my true self show.”
In the poem’s poignant conclusion, Lexi affirms her independence: “I’m not trying to fill his shoes. I’m just trying to find my own peace.”
Family and Future
David Bowie also had a son, film director Duncan Zowie Jones, from his previous marriage to Angie Bowie. Iman is the mother of Zulekha Haywood from her marriage to basketball player Spencer Haywood.
As Lexi continues to heal and grow through music and love, she is steadily emerging from behind her father’s immense legacy, not to replicate it—but to build one of her own.
