Leathers (Shannon Hemmett) Premieres “Runaway”

The track was released on May 6th via Artoffact Records

LEATHERS, the synth-pop outfit from Shannon Hemmett (ACTORS) returns with a new music video for “Runaway” following the release of the Reckless EP this past summer. Out today, the music video is a nod to the golden era of 80s-pop. About breaking free and letting go, it provides a pop of color against the mundane routine of everyday life. It was directed by ACTORS-collaborator Wayne Morehart.

In Summer 2021, LEATHERS released their debut EP Reckless via Toronto-based label Artoffact Records. As described by Canada’s premiere magazine, Exclaim, the EP is, “pulsing eighth-note bass, mascara-streaked goth melodies and ’80s-worshipping pop sweetness.”  It also landed on Exclaim’s Essential Releases for August 2021 and saw coverage on Post-Punk.com, Synth-Pop Fanatic, I Die You Die, CBC Radio 3, and more!

MORE ABOUT LEATHERS:

In 2016, LEATHERS assembled at Jacknife Sound where the project bore the whirring rush of “Missing Scene,” channeling the essence of early 4AD Cocteau Twins punctuated with stringent hooks. 2017’s “Day for Night” coaxed a softer, glittering hue that has been recognized by various publications including Diamond Deposits, I Die: You Die and Impose Magazine. On “Phantom Heart,” steeped in cinematic synth that coats the gated, motorik beat pulsing underneath, her velvet crushed vocals break to the forefront–sleeplessly searching for the truth between fantasy and reality. And then there’s the progressive earworm that is Reckless, the new single that promises to catapult LEATHERS onto the forefront of smart, catchy, and serious synth music.
