Layne Staley’s Lost Journals to Be Released in Upcoming Official Book

A collection of Layne Staley’s lost journals is set to be published in an official new book, providing fans with a rare glimpse into the mind of the late Alice In Chains frontman. Titled This Angry Pen: The Lost Journals of Layne Staley, the book will feature an assortment of poetry, artwork, handwritten lyrics, personal notes, and photographs. It is scheduled for release on November 11 through Simon & Schuster, with Staley listed as the sole author.

According to the book’s description, the collection includes never-before-seen materials that shed light on Staley’s creative process, inner struggles, and emotions. Fans will have the opportunity to explore the deeply personal writings of the musician who played a pivotal role in shaping the grunge movement of the early 1990s.

Although the official cover has not yet been revealed on the publisher’s website, the hardcover edition is currently priced at $40.

Confirmation of Authorization

Nehi Stripes Seattle, a Seattle-based music publication, recently shared on Facebook that they received confirmation from Layne Staley’s mother, Nancy McCallum, that the book is authorized. Along with this claim, they posted a photograph of what appears to be the book’s cover.

Mixed Reactions from Alice In Chains Fans

The announcement of the book’s release has sparked a debate among fans on the Alice In Chains Reddit page. Many have expressed concern that the publication of Staley’s private journals could be an invasion of his privacy.

“Reading the description, it sounds like a cash grab… I’d be very interested to know whether this has the blessing of anyone in Layne’s family. Maybe it will actually be good and respectful, but I can’t help feeling iffy about it,” one fan commented.

Another Reddit user speculated that while some fans may initially object to the book, the inclusion of personal journal entries from Staley’s later years might ultimately persuade many to purchase it.

Additionally, discussions have surfaced regarding journals that were allegedly stolen from Staley’s residence after his passing. However, there are no verified sources confirming these claims.

While the book’s release is bound to generate both excitement and controversy, it undeniably presents a unique opportunity for fans to connect with Staley’s artistic legacy on a deeply personal level.
