Iron Maiden to Release Documentary Featuring Final Interview with Paul Di’Anno

Iron Maiden Announces New Documentary Featuring Late Frontman Paul Di’Anno
Iron Maiden, one of the most legendary heavy metal bands of all time, is set to release a new documentary film in 2025 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The film will feature exclusive interviews with band members past and present, including the last-ever interview with the late Paul Di’Anno, the group’s original vocalist.
The documentary, produced in collaboration with Universal Pictures Content Group, will explore the band’s five-decade-long journey, from their formation in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris, to their rise as one of the most influential metal bands in history. It will provide an in-depth look at their evolution, their connection with their devoted fanbase, and the lasting impact of their music on rock and heavy metal culture.
A Tribute to Paul Di’Anno
Paul Di’Anno, who was Iron Maiden’s lead singer during their formative years and appeared on their first two albums, Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981), passed away in October 2024. His final interview will be a key highlight of the documentary, offering fans a chance to hear his reflections on his time with the band and his perspective on their enduring legacy.
Di’Anno’s sisters, Cheryl and Michelle, later confirmed his cause of death in a heartfelt social media post:
“Basically, he had a tear in the sac around the heart, and blood had filled inside it from the main aorta artery, causing the heart to stop. Paul’s death was instantaneous and hopefully painless. May he rest in peace.”
Featuring Musical Icons and Fans
In addition to the band members themselves, the film will include interviews with notable figures from the music industry and devoted fans of the band, including actors and musicians such as Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich (Metallica), and Gene Simmons (KISS). The documentary aims to provide a deeper understanding of Iron Maiden’s cultural influence and the impact they have had on generations of rock and metal fans worldwide.
A Celebration of Legacy
Rod Smallwood, Iron Maiden’s longtime manager, expressed his excitement about the project:
“We’re proud Universal Pictures Content Group has chosen to share the unique story of Iron Maiden with the world. We have given them unrestricted access to the band, our fans, and musical peers. We trust that they will excite not only music fans but also anyone who loves a story of an underdog beating the odds to become and remain one of Britain’s biggest musical exports.”
Helen Parker, Executive Vice President of Universal Pictures Content Group and the film’s Executive Producer, also shared her enthusiasm:
“We’re thrilled Iron Maiden has entrusted us to bring their legacy to cinemas around the world. Working closely with the band and their passionate fans has been an unrivaled experience, allowing us to tell their story in a unique way and celebrate their incomparable, fearless creativity in their 50th anniversary year.”
