Geddy Lee Scores First Solo Hit in the U.K. with Decades-Old Song “Gone”
Professionally, Geddy Lee is best known as the iconic vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist of the legendary Canadian rock band Rush. The group spent decades at the forefront of rock music, especially revered in Canada, before officially disbanding a decade ago. Since then, each member has continued to be celebrated individually for their immense contributions to music. This week, Geddy Lee adds a new achievement to his modest solo career: for the first time, he has charted a hit single under his own name in the United Kingdom.
“Gone” Finally Makes Its Chart Debut
Lee’s song “Gone” has entered the top 40 on two U.K. charts this week. It debuts at No. 30 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts. The Official Physical Singles chart ranks tracks sold in all physical formats, including CDs, vinyl, and cassettes, while the Official Vinyl Singles chart focuses solely on vinyl releases.
In addition to these successes, “Gone” has also entered the broader Official Singles Sales Chart, which combines both physical and digital sales. There, it makes its debut at No. 62, giving Lee a particularly significant solo victory.
A Record Store Day Exclusive
“Gone” was released as part of the Record Store Day 2025 celebrations, appearing on a limited-edition vinyl release titled The Lost Demos. This special record features two previously unreleased tracks from Lee’s archives: “Gone” on Side A and “I Am…You Are” on Side B.
Although both songs are included on the record, the Official Charts Company has credited only “Gone” for chart purposes. Because the release consists of just two tracks, it is classified as a single rather than an EP or an album, with the A-side track serving as the primary focus.
A Rare Solo Triumph
This marks the first time Geddy Lee has scored a solo hit single in the United Kingdom. His previous solo effort came in 2000 with the release of My Favourite Headache, his only solo album to date. That record peaked at No. 15 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums Chart, spending just two weeks on the list before dropping off.
Lee’s solo career has been sparse compared to his prolific and highly successful tenure with Rush, during which the band enjoyed international acclaim, multi-platinum albums, and enduring fan loyalty. Nevertheless, with just a handful of solo releases, Lee has now secured a solo chart presence that stretches across 25 years, demonstrating the lasting admiration for his work among rock fans.
