Julia Tynes writes and performs soulful Pop tunes with a throwback to the 90’s feel. She is easily recognizable by her sweet sound, cheeky wordplay and racially ambiguous look. As a Nova Scotian born artist with African and European heritage, Julia says being multiracial is one reason for her strong-sense of self. ‘People are always asking, what are you? I think it is important to define myself and not the other way around’. Julia’s newest single Stand Still will hit radio August 2018. Stand Still is a smooth jam that combines Pop, R&B and rap elements. The song was written about the emotional pain of choosing to move away from something you really care about, whether it be a relationship, a career, family or your dreams. ‘I take a step feel you move, standing still, you I lose’, lyrics from Stand Still.

In January 2018 Julia released a music video for her single Obvious and received radio play across Canada. With a passion for creativity from an early age, Julia wrote the chorus for Obvious when she was only 9 years old. Promoting self-expression and confidence in youth is something close to Julia’s heart and something she considers carefully when writing her music and posting to Social Media. Julia is a graduate of the Randolph College for the Arts and has worked with various after school programs teaching songwriting and performing arts. Julia was featured in Teens Now Talk magazine and a celebrity guest at their youth conference. Other notable performances include; The legendary Stan Rogers Festival, Indie Week Toronto, East Coast Music Week, and opening for Liberty Silver to name a few. Julia was the ANSMA Emerging Artist of the year 2016 and a 2017 nominee for Rising Star. Julia’s debut album the ‘Girl in Every Song’, is set to be released Fall 2018. It was recorded at the highly esteemed Phase One Studios with sought-after producer Mike Smith. The record combines Julia’s down-to-earth perspective and girl power sass in autobiographical songs about love, relationships and getting a little reckless. Julia’s musical influences include; Mariah Carey, Motown, Bruno Mars and Michael Jackson.
