East Side Blues Series 2019 seasson!

March 9 /8:00 pm March 10 /1:00 am

Opening the 2019 session I am proud to announce our special Guests: This is his first visit with us Mr Dylan Wickens and returning for his second time Julian Fauth!!!
And as always Jerome Godboo and your Host Aaron Kazmer with the Stella Backing Band the only and only EAST SIDE BLUES BAND:
Chris Burgess on Guitar, Tyler Burgess on Drums and James Rasmussen on Bass!

Dylan Wickens:
True to the spirit of power trios of the sixties, Dylan Wickens & The Grand Naturals immediately grab the listener by the ears with their unapologetic take on the blues, by choosing to colour outside the lines with fuzzed up guitars and bass and melodic, hook-heavy vocal lines. Raw, real, modern and traditional; it’s that paradox which defines the sound of these three world- class musicians that have come together to record the aptly titled, Hi Lo-Fi.

Their debut recording Tattoo Black was released in 2010 to critical acclaim and extensive airplay on commercial and campus radio, CBC, Stingray and specialty blues programs, quickly establishing themselves as one of the most original and exciting bands in the genre.

Wickens’ guitar work transitions between visceral stinging slide and soulful blues/rock with the combination of the two helping to define the band’s sound as both raw and real but contemplative, while his vocals are gritty and fervent with a “Clapton like growl and urgency” (Blinded By Sound). As a songwriter, Wickens composes well crafted and meaningful songs that often have a melodic twist at the end – a nod to the freestyle playing of 60s power trios.

Julian Fauth:
Julian Fauth is a singer and piano player whose style is based on the tradition of pre-war barrelhouse blues and boogie woogie, with infusions of gospel and jazz. He writes his own songs in addition to re-interpreting traditional material.
In his teens, Julian was a protégé of Mississippi blues giant Mel Brown, whose influence was invaluable.

He plays regularly in his hometown of Toronto and has toured across Canada, the USA, Western Europe, Russia and Cuba.
Julian has recorded a number of CD’s with Electro-Fi Records. His first CD, “Songs of Vice and Sorrow” was nominated for, and his second CD “Ramblin’ Son” won, the JUNO for Blues Album of the Year. His third CD was selected Best Blues Album of 2012 by the CBC, he’s won one Maple Blues Award and been nominated for many other MBA’s. Julian has played with many great players and has opened for Johnny Winter, John Mayall and John Hammond.

Jerome Godboo
Jerome’s bending harp skills continue to mesmerize all who witness him onstage, including the judges at the International Blues Challenge 2014 in Memphis where he took home the Best Harmonica Player Award. His talents have been sought by the likes of Ronnie Hawkins, Prince (who asked Jerome to join his band!) and Jeff Healey, who covers two of Jerome’s songs on his latest (posthumous) release.
