Colin Fowlie – Party Music *Toronto* W/ Brooklyn & Claire
April 7 /7:00 pm 11:00 pm
A late bloomer as a songwriter, now in his 40’s with plenty of life experience behind him, Colin strives for lyrical depth and compelling stories in his songs, fusing elements of folk, rock, blues, and Americana/Canadiana.
In live performances, his powerful vocals and stylistic versatility evoke strong emotional responses from his audiences.
He has shared festival stages and opened for notable acts such as Grace Potter, Matt Andersen, Irish Mythen, and Chris Colepaugh. Colin had a breakout year in 2018 that saw him leave a 20-year professional career to pursue music full-time. He has performed at the Area 506 Festival, the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, Shivering Songs, and many other great Canadian festivals and venues.
Brooklyn Doran is a singer-songwriter from the heart of remote Northwestern Ontario, whose unique live show weaves song and storytelling. The polarity between her music and personality create a harmonious blend of wit and humor contrasted by vulnerable lyricism and haunting melody.
“Brooklyn commands the room not only with her music but her vibrant personality that shines through in her between song banter, relating to the audience in a way that leaves us feeling like we have been friends all along.” – Vanessa Cito, Reach
Moving to Toronto in 2008, Brooklyn Doran wasted no time building a reputation for herself in the music scene. A natural performer, audiences were immediately drawn to Doran’s engaging storytelling and emotional honesty. When it came time to record her debut EP, she had already amassed a dedicated fanbase eager to contribute to her efforts. Supported by her fans through a crowdfunding campaign, Doran independently released the “There’s A Light On” EP to a sold-out crowd at Toronto venue The Piston in Spring 2014. The record went on to sell over 2000 copies and has received extensive radio play nationwide.
Claire’s newest EP, “On The Other Side”, features 5 emotion packed song driven arrangements. Highlights include the EP’s single, Bound For Love, “a bouncy song with pitch perfect harmonies and sweet lyrics” (Canadian Beats), that searches for new beginnings, hope, and love within people and nature. Fleet Street, a reminiscent tale of love gone wrong features smooth alto saxophone, synth and driving electric guitar for a laid back, groove based folk-rock ballad, with a smattering of Mitchell-esque chords. Love In Your Eyes, a song written with pure country stylistics features dreamy pedal steel by Fats Kaplin (John Prine, Jack White), paired with smooth finger picking and Coupland’s sultry alto range. Get Outta This Town “is where the emotion in Claire’s voice shines through” (Canadian Beats). The last song, “This One’s For The Road”, bids farewell to a toxic relationship with “lush harmonies and a classic Americana feel” (Belwood Music).
