Alice Cooper Reunites with Original Band for First Album in 51 Years: The Revenge of Alice Cooper

In a stunning full-circle moment, legendary shock rocker Alice Cooper is reuniting with the original members of the Alice Cooper band for their first full-length album in 51 years, The Revenge of Alice Cooper, slated for release on July 25 via earMUSIC. Speaking from his Phoenix home, Cooper reflected, “It felt like this was our next album after 1973’s Muscle of Love. Isn’t that funny after 50 years? All of a sudden it just falls into place.”
Produced by longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, the 14-track album features Cooper alongside guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neil Smith — the core lineup responsible for the band’s iconic early albums, including Love It to Death, Killer, School’s Out, and Billion Dollar Babies. Guitarist Glen Buxton, who passed away in 1997, is lovingly honored throughout the project and posthumously features on two tracks via archival material.
Ezrin, who also contributed keyboards, percussion, backing vocals, and songwriting, noted the eerie familiarity of working with the band again. “It’s like they just walked out of high school and were hanging out at the local café,” he said. “They revert to who they were as kids… and make music together like they did 50-some years ago.”
One of the album’s standout tracks, “Black Mamba,” will premiere on April 22 on Cooper’s syndicated radio show Alice’s Attic. Featuring Robby Krieger of The Doors — a friend since the band’s early days in Los Angeles — the track was born spontaneously in the studio. “We started jamming on the riff, and it just took off,” said Dunaway. “We got this swampy feel going, and suddenly it was a song about a deadly black mamba snake. It was very organic.”
Ezrin pointed to “Black Mamba” as a defining moment for the album. “That’s when I knew the spirit of the Alice Cooper group was truly back. It sounded like something we would’ve done in the ’70s — psychedelic, artful, and dark with Alice telling a brilliant story.”
The album also includes a reimagined version of the Yardbirds’ 1965 song “I Ain’t Done Wrong,” a track the band used to play during their early days as The Spiders in Phoenix, as well as remixed or restored versions of early material like “Titanic Overunderture” from Pretties for You and “Return of the Spiders 2025,” a bonus remix of a 1970 track from Easy Action.
Filling the void left by Buxton is Nashville guitarist Gyasi Hues, who was discovered and vetted by Dunaway and Smith. “We were skeptical at first,” Ezrin said, “but he brought something that honored Glen’s legacy. Once he started playing, the room lit up.”
Recording for The Revenge of Alice Cooper began in August 2022 at the Carriage House studio in Connecticut, with additional sessions taking place in Phoenix, Nashville, Los Angeles, and Toronto.
Though Cooper has a busy tour schedule this year — including U.S. dates in May and August, a European summer tour, and a co-headlining run with Judas Priest in the fall — live performances with the original group remain uncertain. Still, the idea of special performances in key cities like Detroit, New York, or London is on the table.
“If Alice calls, I’m in,” said Bruce. Dunaway echoed the sentiment, stating, “We’ve always been ready. It’s just about the right moment.”
The band’s journey toward this moment has spanned decades. After their 1974 breakup, they reconnected over time, performing at Alice Cooper’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2011 and collaborating on later albums like Welcome 2 My Nightmare (2011), Paranormal (2017), and Detroit Stories (2021). The 2015 reunion performance at Good Records in Dallas, released as Live from the Astroturf, rekindled their shared creative spark.
Now, the release of The Revenge of Alice Cooper marks a significant chapter in their legacy — but not necessarily the last. “Dennis called it a one-off album,” Cooper said, “but I don’t see it that way. I’ll always be up for working with these guys.”
